At onCyt, we want to create the highest possible value for our customers through our technological solutions and our experience. To this end, we explore our customers’ needs together with them and then put our equipment and know-how to the best possible use to meet those needs.
We believe that real added value needs solid science and engineering as a foundation. Based on previous and ongoing scientific research projects, we further develop and improve both our technology and expertise. Emerging from the leading research group in this field, we have years of fundamental and applied experience and are connected with top researchers worldwide conducting cutting-edge research.
onCyt Microbiology AG is an official spin-off of Eawag (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology), which is part of the ETH domain. We are based in Zürich, Switzerland and dedicated to bringing high-quality Swiss engineering to customers worldwide.
The onCyt Origin
Our Commitment
onCyt originated as a side project in the PhD project in drinking water microbiology of co-founder and Executive Chairman, Dr. Michael Besmer at Eawag / ETH Zürich. The core technology was invented to solve a fundamental problem in an applied research project because it could unfortunately not be acquired nor found anywhere else. After it proved to work really well, it attracted a lot of interest at conferences and industry events. Michael Besmer decided to share this concept and make this technology widely available and founded a start-up in 2017 where he could co-create great solutions in the highest quality with some of the most awesome individuals. This is the birth of onCyt.
Initially, onCyt customers came from fields of fundamental and applied cutting-edge research in Belgium, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, the UK, Saudi Arabia, the US, Canada and South Korea. Given the applied nature of the initial research project, our industrial experience evolved right from the beginning. This has allowed us to expand to ever-new applications and industrial segments. Over time, commercial companies from various manufacturing industries, especially those involving liquids, have joined the industrial users in the drinking water industry and tapped into onCyt’s technology.
Because of our solid scientific foundation and systematic mindsets, we can rapidly tailor our versatile technology platform to cater for specific needs. Since we started out as end-users and have only engaged our thinking from the application perspective, customer centricity is second nature to us, with our passion for our machines keeping us in focus on our work.
The onCyt technology has been successfully applied for laboratory and field studies for ten years across different scientific fields.
